Translogic drives Land Rover's Defender concept, samples its James Bondian tech. We were thrilled to see that Land Rover unveiled a pair of concept vehicles in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The two models; a drop-top and a more business-like fixed roof off-roader, signal a pair of possible directions of the next generation Defender. Both models are very attractive and they at least look off-road-ready, but since they're concept vehicles they're likely all show and no go, right?
Not so fast. Our sister publication Translogic actually got behind the wheel of the DC100 concepts, and there were no paved roads in sight.

We don't see any 40-degree grades or serious rocks to traverse, but we do learn about some amazing off-road technology like Automatic Train Response and incredible-sounding spiked-on-demand Land Rover tires.

Hennessey previews Jeep Cherokee Twin Turbo with 800hp. Hennessey Performance has sent us a neat little note which starts, "Who Needs Reindeer When You Have an 800 HP Twin Turbo Sleigh?"
With that in mind, Hennessey has released this preview rendering of their 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 packing a HPE800 Twin Turbo engine package. It consists of the factory 6.4-liter HEMI V8 with an increased displacement to 7.0-liters (426 cubic inches) in addition to a not so small twin turbo system.
In standard specification the Grand Cherokee SRT8 outputs 465 hp (347 kW / 471 PS) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque which is good for a 0-60 mph time of 4.8 seconds. Price tag in the U.S. is $55,295. However, Hennessey's HPE800 equipped Grand Cherokee SRT8 produces 805 hp (816 PS / 600 kW) and 823 lb-ft (1115 Nm) of torque. The HPE800 strangles the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.1 seconds.
Additional modifications include an upgraded transmission system and torque converter upgrade, 15.1 inch Brembo brakes front and rear, a lowered sport suspension system, lighter alloy Jeep wheels, carbon fiber front splitter and a custom leather interior with Alcantara steering wheel.
"We've built a dozens of 600-800 hp Jeep SRT8s over the past five years, so we have an existing client base who will want to upgrade the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 to an even higher level", said company founder and president, John Hennessey. "This vehicle is designed for the performance minded driver who lives in Aspen or Moscow and wants to be the fastest in all weather conditions."

Styling revisions give the Volvo C70 a freshened appearance for 2011. The 2011 C70 gets a redesigned front fascia, grille, headlights, and front fenders. Inside, the instrument panel has been redesigned for 2011.

Toyota has announced that its slightly redesigned 2012 Tacoma mid-size pickup will start at $16,875 (*plus $810 for delivery). For those keeping track, that figure is exactly $510 more than it was in 2011. That sum will net the buyer a Regular Cab 4x2 equipped with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission.
Opting for Ye Olde Four-Speed Automatic with the four-cylinder engine will add $900 to the bottom line, while ticking the box for the Access Cab will bring the sticker up to $19,665 with a manual transmission. The least-expensive Double Cab with a four cylinder and automatic (manual gearboxes are not offered on four-door models) will cost $22,175.
The cheapest way to get into a V6 Tacoma is to opt for the PreRunner package and five-speed automatic gearbox for $22,760. Want four-wheel drive? Be prepared to write a check for $20,725 with the four cylinder (Regular Cab, five-speed manual) or $25,055 with the V6 (Access Cab and six-speed manual).

Audi's Q family of crossovers began with the Q7, reached new highs with the Q5, and is about to go to the next round with the smaller Q3 (at least in Europe -- its U.S. prospects remain unclear). But that is only the beginning. As many as three more Q ships are being planned: a coupe-like four-door Q6, the two-door Q4, and the subcompact Q1.
Although its sales have fallen off in the United States, worldwide, Q7 production in 2010 increased by 37 percent to 47,700 units. The Q5, which is assembled in Germany, China, India, and Malaysia, climbed 32 percent to 155,000 vehicles, and has become Audi's second most popular U.S. model. When you add the 100,000 Q3s that will be built in Marorell, Spain, from 2012 onwards, the Q-tally quickly approaches the quarter-million-unit mark. Going forward, those numbers will surely grow.
Q3: The Q3 is still not guaranteed for the U.S. market, but privately, Audi's U.S. executives tell us they do expect it to come, probably not before 2014. This compact crossover, which is just now going on sale in Europe, will offer a trio of 2.0-liter engines -- gasoline versions making 170 and 211 hp, with a 140-hp TDI to follow.
Q6: The Q6 obviously follows in the tracks of the BMW X6, but Audi expects to eclipse its rival by offering a prettier shape, a more spacious rear passenger compartment, better visibility, easier entry and exit, a bigger cargo compartment with a lower loading height, and an optional full-length glass roof. The Q6 is based on the Q5, and in an ideal world, the bean counters will okay a completely new body in white complete with a more steeply raked windshield, a lower roofline, and a broader stance. Under the hood it will offer a revised 3.0-liter TFSI V-6, which drops the supercharger in favor of a single turbo. It churns out 300 hp and 400Nm while consuming up to 20 percent less fuel. The base unit is an upgraded 2.0-liter TFSI four, which musters 220 hp and 350Nm. A third engine is the 3.0-litre V-6 TDI, good for 252 hp and 550Nm. Also in the cards is a plug-in hybrid, combining the four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 100-hp electric motor. Theoretically, the Q6 could go on sale in 2013, when the Q5 is due to undergo a minor facelift. More realistic, however, is a launch in 2016, dovetailing nicely with the second-generation Q5, which is said to be some 200 pounds lighter than today's version.

We love a good station wagon. Audi has just pulled the wraps off its sleek new 2012 Audi A6 Avant, and we're already swooning over the capacious cargo-hauler.
'Lightweight' seems to be the buzzword for the latest A6 wagon. The body is comprised of bits of aluminum (20 percent of it in fact), and the A6 benefits from composite construction that integrates high-strength steel where needed to keep passengers safe. The lightweight approach to construction has helped the 2012 A6 Avant drop 66 pounds versus the previous model, and depending on the powertrain installed, the new car is as much as 154 pounds lighter than the one it replaces. The base A6 2.0 TDI Avant, for example, weighs just 3,616 pounds.
The A6 Avant is available with a choice of six engines and four transmissions. The base unit is a 2.0-liter TDI turbo-diesel four-cylinder that produces 177 horsepower, and is rated to consume approximately 47 miles per gallon when paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. A larger diesel is offered in the form of a twin-turbo 3.0-liter TDI mill, available in 204-, 245- and 313-horsepower configurations. That last one will push the A6 Avant from 0-60 miles per hour in 5.4 seconds.
Two petrol engines are offered, measring 2.8 and 3.0 liters, and both units employ variable valve technology. The 2.8-liter FSI engine produces 204 horsepower while the 3.0-liter TFSI pumps out 300 horsepower thanks to the attached supercharger. Besides the aforementioned six-speed manual, the A6 Avant can be fitted with a CVT or the seven-speed S-Tronic gearbox. However, the 3.0 TDI is equipped with an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission.

It seems there's no word yet on whether this Audi wagon is making the jump across the pond to pose in U.S. dealerships. For now, it's slated to go on sale in Europe later this summer with a starting price of €40,850 (approximately $58,288 USD). Audi has already given us a preview of its next-generation 2013 A3, as well as a future electrified e-tron variant using the shell of the current model. Now the automaker has combined these two elements, forming the latest
A3 Sedan e-tron Concept, which has made its world debut today at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show.
The four-seat sedan integrates the full breadth of the brand’s technological expertise--from the enhanced MMI operating system, to the high-end infotainment system, to the drivetrain.
Unlike the previous A3 e-tron prototype, which featured a relatively simple battery-powered electric drive system, the latest concept packs two separate powerplants--a compact gasoline engine and an electric motor.
